The Amen

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor Jeff Smith

The Gospel of John closes with a powerful final word: Amen. This word is more than a simple ending; it is a declaration of certainty, truth, and divine authority. Under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, John seals his Gospel with this affirmation, reminding us that everything he wrote is absolutely true.

In Scripture, the word Amen means certainly, truly, surely, or verily. It is used to assert, consent to, and affirm truth, but the Bible goes even further by revealing that Jesus Christ Himself is called “the Amen” (Revelation 3:14), the faithful and true witness who confirms the truth of God’s word and fulfills every promise God has ever made.

In this sermon, we explore how Jesus Christ is the Amen of God:

• The Amen of God’s Divine Person – Christ is the faithful and true witness, the Creator of all things, and the living confirmation of God’s Word.

• The Amen of God’s Divine Promises – Every promise of God finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20).

• The Amen of God’s Divine Propitiation – Through His sacrifice on the cross, Christ satisfied the wrath of God and made salvation possible for sinners.

• The Amen of God’s Divine Plan – Jesus Christ will bring God’s redemptive plan to completion and return in glory.

Because Christ is the Amen, believers can have full confidence that God’s promises are certain, salvation is secure, and the future victory of Christ is guaranteed.

The Bible itself ends with the promise of Christ’s return:

“Surely I come quickly. Amen.” — Revelation 22:20

If you know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you already know the outcome of the story: we win.
