 Opening Thought:
Heart trouble is one of the top causes of death in the U.S., but even more severe is spiritual heart trouble. The Bible says the heart is deceitful (Jer. 17:9) and is the source of all life’s issues (Prov. 4:23). Jesus said sin, unbelief, and wickedness all come from the condition of the heart (Matt. 15:19; Mark 7:21; John 12:39-40).

Symptoms of Spiritual Heart Disease:

  • Fearful – Luke 21:26

  • Fainthearted – Deut. 20:8

  • Frozen – Matt. 24:12

  • Fat – Deut. 32:15

    •      Grief – Prov. 25:20

    •      Greed – 1 Tim. 6:10

  • Foolish – Rom. 1:21

  • Filthy – Job 15:16

    •   Doers – Ps. 53:3

    •    Demeanor – 2 Pet. 2:7

    •    Dreamers – Jude 1:8

    •    Dollars – Titus 1:11

Challenge: Do you show signs of spiritual heart disease?

I.              The Remedy – John 14:6

  • ·      Believe in God, believe also in me – Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9-10. Believe and receive (John 1:12)

  •   “Life is Short. Death is Sure. Sin, the Curse. Christ, the Cure.”

  • “They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:31–32

  • Christ/His blood = the Cure

    o   Redeemer is Jesus : Isa. 54:5; John 10:10; Rom. 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:21

    o   Redemption is the blood : Ps. 49:8; Eph. 1:7; Heb. 9:12

o   Redeemed are the Saints: Gal. 3:13; Rev. 5:9

Illustration: A plague doctor learned that the cure for his own soul was not medicine, but Christ alone.

Challenge: Have you received the cure to your heart sickness? Are you giving the cure to others who are sick?

II.            The Readiness – John 14:2

  • Designed by Christ – Rev. 21

    • New Jerusalem is a cube: 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles high.

    • For Perspective: This would stretch from Canada to Mexico, and from the Atlantic coast to Colorado, and then upward into space over 300 times the height of Mount Everest.

  • The Designation of this place is in the Father’s house

  • The Delight of the Place – Revelation 21:4-5
Richard Baxter said on his deathbed: “Almost well.” His heart was set on heaven.

  • The Description of the Place – Revelation 21:9-23

    • It’s a Prepared Place – “Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.” – DL Moody

    • It’s a Prominent Place

    • It’s a Personal Place

    • It’s a Permanent Place

III.         The Return - John 14:3

  • Jesus will return – personally, powerfully, positional

  • Names of His return: Rapture, Resurrection, Redemption

  • It is near and imminent (1 Thess. 4:13–18)

Illustration: Like the bride of a Revolutionary War soldier, we wait, knowing He will return.

Final Challenge:

Has Christ cured your heart?
Are you preparing for the place He’s preparing?
Are you ready for His return?
