Going the Distance

Going the Distance

Text: John 13

✝️ Opening

Jesus knew the cross was near.
Instead of retaliation, He chose humility and service.

🎯 Main Thought

Jesus went the distance—how can we follow His example?

1️. The Bason and Towel of Washing

John 13:5

🩸 Symbolism:

  • Blood = justification

  • Water = sanctification

✨ Jesus humbles Himself to wash His disciples’ feet.

📖 Key Scriptures:
Romans 5:9 | 1 John 1:9 | Ephesians 5:25-26

Challenge:
What will you lay aside to run the spiritual race?

🤔 Reflection:
Are you more disciplined physically or spiritually?

2️. Leaning on the Bosom of the Word

John 13:23

🤝 John’s intimacy with Jesus symbolizes closeness to Christ and His Word.

This closeness:

  • Calms concerns

  • Keeps convictions right

  • Clears conscience

Challenge:
Are you close enough to hear Jesus clearly?

💬 Quote:

“He who leans only upon Christ lives the highest, choicest, safest, and sweetest life.”

3️. The Bread of Wickedness

John 13:26

🍞 Judas took the bread of wickedness despite Jesus’ love.
Jesus called him “Friend” even knowing the betrayal.

Question:
Which bread will you choose to eat?

📖 Scripture:
1 Corinthians 5:8

💡 Closing Reflection

Jesus went the distance for you out of love.

Will you go the distance for Him?
Will you pick up the towel or throw it down?
