Outnumbered But Not Outmatched
đź“– Outnumbered But Not Outmatched
Text: 2 Chronicles 14:8-15
Theme: When God’s people trust Him in overwhelming situations, He gives supernatural victory.
I. The Impossibility of the Situation (v. 8–9)
· • Asa’s Resources – targets, spears, shields, and bows
· • Asa’s Recruits: 580,000 valiant men (Judah: 300,000, Benjamin: 280,000)
· • Zerah’s Army: 1,000,000 men + 300 chariots
· • Odds: 58 to 100 (Asa was outnumbered 2 to 1)
· • Biblical Examples of Outnumbered Faithful: Gideon, Abijah, Joshua & Caleb, Shadrach, Noah, Joseph, Micaiah, Elijah, David, Daniel, Jonah, Peter, Paul
· • Quote: “One man with God is a majority.” – John Knox
· • Spurgeon: “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.”
📝 Application: Are you feeling the pressure of being outnumbered by adversaries, choices, temptations, or fears? Remember 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 – Be strong and courageous... With us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles.
II. The Intercession of Salvation (v. 11)
· • Asa’s Response – He prays earnestly and eagerly, “LORD”
· • Asa’s Request – Seeks help from God: 'Help us, O LORD our God…'
· • Asa’s Reliance – '…for we rest on thee…' (cf. 2 Chronicles 16:8)
· • Asa’s Reminder – 'O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.'
· • Application: In distress, God’s ability is revealed through our disability (2 Cor. 12:9).
📝 Application: Reliance must be on Jesus Christ, not recruits or resources (Psalm 20:6–9).
III. The Intervention of God’s Strength (v. 12–13)
· • God smote the Ethiopians; Asa experienced total victory.
· • Asa pursued, overcame, rejoiced, and returned with abundance.
· • Enemies were overthrown, smitten with fear, and defeated.
· • Victory verses: 1 Chronicles 29:11; Psalms 98:1; 1 Corinthians 15:57
📝 Application: Nobody can win a victory like Jesus. Trust in Him — His strength is limitless.
IV. The Intention of the Success (v. 14–15)
· • The victory brought glory to God, not Asa.
· • Resulted in peace and the fear of God spreading.
· • Application: Our battles are to glorify God, not self (Romans 8:35-39).
📝 Application: God proves Himself through our trials and proves that He is the reason for our success.
