Idols In Their Heart

“Idols in Their Heart” - Ezekiel 14:3-4

Notice the progression of backsliding always starts in the heart. Once idols begin to be “set up” in a man’s heart, it won’t be long before they become a “stumblingblock” put before “his face.”

It’s amazing how the heart will “stumble” upon the things it desires. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked (Jer. 17:9), so sin and iniquity will begin as a thought and desire of the heart. Before long everywhere you go, that idol will seem to be “in your face.” It’s not that there’s more of it to tempt you, it’s just that the eyes begin to look for the things the heart desires. You will begin to put things (phone, camera, tv, internet, food, drink, etc) before your face that satisfies the desires of your heart. From that point on, it won’t be long before the desire of one’s heart, the presence of it before one’s face, becomes the snare of one’s life. There was only one tree and one fruit of that tree that plunged the human race under a curse.

The Christian is admonished to give his heart to God, let him keep your heart with all diligence by hiding God’s word in your heart, rather than hiding those things which are deceitful, carnal, evil, and will cause you to stumble.

If you will keep your heart clean, your face will be kept from seeking after evil and your affections will be on things from above rather than on things of the earth. After all, where your heart is, there will your treasures be also.
